Department of Plant Medicine

Educational purpose

Beyond the idea that agriculture is a simple industry, it is a living industry in our lives. While fulfilling many public functions, agriculture in this era is undergoing many environmental changes.
Changes that have not been considered until recently, such as climate change, population growth, and the advent of the 4th industrial revolution, are already becoming a reality, and a new concept of agriculture must be created to solve the problems in response to these changes. As climate change causes changes in the agricultural environment and new plant diseases and pests are introduced, agricultural productivity has significantly decreased. This decline in agricultural productivity is predicted to seriously accelerate the food shortage problem caused by population growth in the near future. In addition, as the wave of the 4th industrial revolution affects the agricultural fields, a new concept of agriculture through the convergence of various fields such as plant factories, smart farms, and the use of drones will lead the future of agriculture. Since such a transformation will occur much more rapidly than expected, it is absolutely necessary to nurture new talents who will lead the new concept of agriculture in the near future.
In particular, the pest problem is a problem caused by climate change, an important cause of global food shortages, and a problem that must be effectively controlled through the convergence technology of the 4th industry. The Department of Plant Medicine at CBNU is the department that conducts essential research on plant pests and diseases in the agricultural environment. We conduct education to cultivate talents who can adapt and respond to environmental changes caused by climate change, food problems, and the advent of the 4th industry.
